New Mexico High School Volleyball - Espanola Valley overwhelmed by Los Alamos
October 5, 2021: Los Alamos, NM 87544 In Tuesday's league battle, the host Los Alamos Hilltoppers volleyball team scored a 3-0 triumph over the Espanola Valley Sundevils.
The Hilltoppers (10-5) will now prepare for their battle against Taos (Taos, NM). The Tigers come into the 4A District 2 battle with a 6-5 record. In their last battle, Taos achieved victory over Espanola Valley (Espanola, NM), 3-0, in a league battle.
Next, the Sundevils clash with the Taos Tigers (Taos, NM) in a 4A District 2 battle, on Thursday, October 7. Espanola Valley will attempt to advance on its 8-7 season record. The Tigers come into the battle with a 5-5 record after their 3-1 league loss to Pojoaque Valley (Pojoaque, NM).
Match Summary
Los Alamos started District play with a sweep of the Espanola Sun Devils. The first two sets saw the Toppers hitting on all cylinders and minimizing errors that have plagued them on Saturday. The Toppers had 11 aces, 32 kills and 12 blocks on the night. The back row stepped up and delivered with only 3 receive errors on the night and 4 dig errors. Bri Nieto settled in covering the court and delivering copious 3 balls to her Sophomore Setter Angelina Passalacqua. Anna Kirkland had a solid performance with 4 aces and 11 points on serve combined with no receive errors and solid passing all night. The Topper front row led again by Nadia Gallegos dominated the game. Next up for the Toppers in a week is a trip to Taos to visit the Tigers in the first road match for Los Alamos in District.
