Illinois High School Volleyball - Wilmington tips Coal City
October 10, 2024: Wilmington, IL 60481 Fans at Thursday's league contest between the Wilmington Wildcats (Wilmington, IL) and the visiting Coal City Coalers (Coal City, IL), observed Wilmington's volleyball team hold off Coal City by a count of 2-1.
The Wildcats (18-6) will now prepare for their contest against Lisle (Lisle, IL). The Lions enter the Illinois Central Eight contest with a 15-12 record. In their last contest, Lisle got by Manteno (Manteno, IL), 2-1, in a league contest.
Next, the Coalers battle the Timothy Christian Trojans (Elmhurst, IL) in a non-league contest, on Friday, October 11. Coal City will attempt to move on its 15-11 season record. The Trojans enter the contest with a 20-2 record after their 2-0 league win over Wheaton Academy (West Chicago, IL).

The Cats won on Thursday playing on a very emotional night against Coal City: 26-24, 23-25, 25-21. The Cats won over the Lady Coalers on their Volley For The Cure Night making them 11-0 in the conference with 3 games to go. Smith led the way again with 10 kills, 15 digs, 3 blocks and 2 aces. Also putting up great numbers in the front row was Molly Southall with 6 kills and Van Duyne and Maggie Lindsey both putting up another 5 each. Southall added 16 digs, 17 assists and 2 blocks to help her team to victory. Lindsey was unstoppable at the net with 5 blocks too. Knight continued again to be a beast in the back row with 19 digs and 2.0 on serve receive.
