Maryland High School Volleyball - Howard edged by Glenelg
October 3, 2023: Ellicott City, MD 21043 The Glenelg Gladiators held off the host Howard Lions volleyball team by a score of 3-2 in Tuesday's league test.
The Gladiators now have a 12-0 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Centennial for a Howard County test on Thursday, October 5. Glenelg will confront a Eagles team coming off a 3-0 league loss to Howard (Ellicott City, MD). The Eagles record now stands at 5-2.
The Lions (7-4) will now prepare for their test against Marriotts Ridge (Marriottsville, MD). The enter the Howard County test with a 2-6 record. In their last test, Marriotts Ridge was nudged by River Hill (Clarksville, MD), 3-0, in a league test.
Match Summary
Howard came out strong and in the first two sets dominated Glenelg with every play on every ball. Every skill was ruled by Howard.
Glenelg would show some grit down early in the 3rd set and found a way to pull away. The fourth set could have gone either way. Glenelg down 22-21, Glenelg came back to fight and stole the set winning 25-23. The last set, Glenelg got off to a 5-1 lead and got to 10 first. Howard would fight and not give up, but Glenelg would find ways to win in the end and win 15-9 in the fifth and finish the match in a reverse sweep.
