Match Summary
In a VHSL state quarterfinal match, the New Kent Lady Trojans, the Region 3A runner-up, lost in four sets to the Fauquier Falcons, the Region 3B champion. NK won the first set 25-22, capitalizing on strong hitting, recording 11 kills and four errors to Fauquier's seven kills and nine errors. However, the Falcons came out hot in the second set, taking a quick 5-1 lead on strong serving that left the Lady Trojans struggling to mount an effective attack. The Falcons went on to win the second and third sets 25-13 and 25-12 to go up one set. The fourth set initially looked like more of the same with the Falcons taking a 7-1 lead, but NK closed to within three points at 10-13. The Falcons expanded their lead to five at 22-17; however, NK, known for their "never give up play" all season, capitalized on Falcon errors and an ace and block to tie the set at 23-23. However, a Falcon block and a NK digging error gave Fauquire the set and match. This ends NK's season with a 14-13 record.
