Match Summary

The Grafton Clippers thwarted New Kent's bid to be the Region 3A Champions, but New Kent took home the runner-up hardware and the satisfaction of one of only two Bay Rivers teams to take a set from Grafton this season. Grafton dominated the first set winning with a score of 25-11, but New Kent took the lead in the second set at 2-1 and never relinquished it, winning that set 25-18 and evening the match score at one set each. But the third set saw Grafton return to their first set form, winning 25-8. New Kent got behind 1-10 in the fourth set, before starting a slow comeback, eventually closing to within six points at 9-15, but that was the closest they were able to get to Grafton, who went on to close out the set 25-16 and the match 3-1. The Lady Trojans fought to the end, scoring attack kills at 12-21, 14-22, and 15-22, before a NK attack error and two Clipper kills closed out the match. New Kent will travel to the winner of Fauquier and Kettle Run on Sat, Nov 11, time TBD.
