October 12, 2023: New Kent, VA 23124 The Jamestown Eagles (Williamsburg, VA) volleyball overcame the host New Kent Trojans (New Kent, VA), 3-1 in Thursday's league outing.
With the win, Jamestown upgrades its record to 16-2 on the year. The Eagles host Bruton (Williamsburg, VA) to face the Panthers in a Bay Rivers outing on Tuesday, October 17. The Panthers go into the outing with a record of 12-4. Bruton won 3-0 in their recent league outing against Tabb (Yorktown, VA)
The Trojans now own a 9-10 record. They play next when they travel to York for a Bay Rivers outing on Tuesday, October 17. New Kent will face a Falcons squad coming off a 3-1 league loss to Poquoson (Poquoson, VA). The Falcons record now stands at 9-7.
Match Summary
New Kent (9-9) lost a hard-fought match against the Jamestown Eagles (15-2) in four sets. NK played the visitors close in the 1st set, closing to within one point at 17-18, before Jamestown went on a 3-7 run to win 20-25. In the 2nd set, NK fell behind in the early going but rallied to tie the set at 9-9 and 13-13, then opened a three-point lead on two aces & a block. Capitalizing on Jamestown errors and their own aces & kills, the NK took the second set 25-19 to even the match. The Eagles served tough to open the third set, jumping out to a 1-6 lead and later extending the lead to 10 points at 4-14. The teams traded points for the rest of the set, with Jamestown winning the set 15-25. The 4th set saw Jamestown again open a small lead, with NK overtaking the guests on an out-of-rotation call at 8-6. A seven-minute delay ensued while the Eagles coach argued the call before admitting her mistake. Jamestown took the lead for good at 15-16, and despite good play by NK, won the set 20-25.
