Match Summary

With emotions running high as they celebrated senior night, the Lady Trojans avenged an early season loss and possibly secured a bye in the first round of the Region 3A tournament with a 5-set win over Bruton, who entered the match third in Bay Rivers with a 12-5 record. NK improves to 9-9 in Bay Rivers and 12-11 overall. The Lady Trojans capitalized on an almost error-free offense in the first set to win 25-13, recording 16 kills and 1 error while the Panthers managed only 5 kills and 4 errors. However, Bruton recovered in sets 2 & 3 tallying 19 kills and 7 errors to NK's 24 kills and 15 errors and also leading NK 5-2 in blocks. The Panthers pulled ahead early in set 4 holding as much as a 7-point lead in the early going. NK tied the set at 17-17 but took their first lead at 22-21. Bruton served for the match at 23-24 and again at 24-25, but NK fought back winning the set 27-25. NK took the early lead in set 5 and held it to win the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
