September 14, 2023: New Kent, VA 23124 The York Falcons topped the host New Kent Trojans volleyball team by a score of 3-1 in Thursday's league test.
The Falcons now have a 3-3 record. They put it on the line next when they host Bruton for a Bay Rivers test on Tuesday, September 19. York will confront a Panthers team coming off a 3-1 league loss to Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA). The Panthers record now stands at 5-3.
The Trojans (2-4) will now prepare for their test against Deep Creek (Chesapeake, VA). The Hornets enter the non-league test with a 3-2 record. In their last test, Deep Creek was knocked off by Nansemond River (Suffolk, VA), 3-2, in a league test.
Match Summary
Despite three Lady Trojans setting personal records and one school record, the New Kent varsity could not overcome York, the defending Class 3 State Champion. Fallon Greenawalt led the New Kent offense with 20 kills on 64 attacks, both PRs for the junior outside hitter, while Courtney Carter, a senior outside, added 8 kills a PR for her. Running the offense, junior setter Mackenzie Loveland recorded 35 assists a PR for the second-year setter. On the defensive side, Libero Abby McLaughlin set both a PR and a school record for digs in a match with 45, eclipsing the previous record of 34 digs set in 2007. Other notable contributions were Carter's 8 aces, senior opposite Lexi Powell's 5 kills, 2 blocks, and 18 digs, and Loveland's 6 kills. New Kent will play on Saturday in the Endless Summer tournament in Virginia Beach.
