Ohio High School Football - Mt. Healthy crushed by Anderson
November 15, 2024: Cincinnati, OH 45231 The Anderson Raptors walloped the host Mt. Healthy Fighting Owls football team by a score of 42-0 in Friday's non-league challenge.
In their next game, the Raptors play the La Salle Lancers (Cincinnati, OH) in a non-league challenge, on Friday, November 22. Anderson will attempt to improve on its 13-0 season record. The Lancers go into the challenge with a 11-2 record after their 37-0 non-league win over Harrison (Harrison, OH).
First Quarter
Anderson opened the game with possession, but the Mt. Healthy defense quickly forced a turnover on downs just across midfield. The ensuing drive resulted in a Fighting Owls punt, and the ball went back to the Raptors. Senior Durrell Turner piled two long runs on Anderson's second drive of the game to put the Raptors in scoring position in the red zone, and with 2:29 left in the quarter, quarterback Justice Burnam scrambled for a 6-yard touchdown run to put Anderson on top. Lucas Callahan added the PAT to give the Raptors a 7-0 lead. On the next drive, Mt. Healthy ran an unsuccessful fake punt on fourth down, setting the Anderson offense up with great field position to begin the second quarter.
Second Quarter
The Raptors wasted little time to begin the second quarter as Durrell Turner ran six yards for the second Anderson score of the night on the first play of the quarter. Callahan's PAT was good to extend the Raptors' lead to 14. After a Jai'Mier Scott punt turned the ball back over to Anderson, Turner followed up with a 60-yard run and Callahan made the extra point to make it a three-score game at 21-0. The ensuing drive resulted in another punt (the third of the night thus far), and the Raptors quickly capitalized when Burnam scrambled for a long gain to advance the ball inside the red zone. With 5:39 to go until halftime, Turner ran one yard for an Anderson touchdown, his third of the night. Callahan added his fourth PAT to put the Raptors up 28-0. The Fighting Owls put together a promising answering drive, but ultimately they turned the ball back over to Anderson on downs deep in Raptor territory. Turner then ran 74 yards for another touchdown to put Anderson up 42-0 at halftime.
Third Quarter
The third quarter began with a running clock and Mt. Healthy possession, but Fighting Owls quarterback Jahmeir Spain was intercepted by senior Jayonn Saunders early in the second half. With 6:26 left in the quarter, Justice Burnam connected with Trace Jallick on a 22-yard touchdown to extend Anderson's lead to 41. Lucas Callahan added the extra point to put the Raptors up by six scores. The ensuing drive resulted in yet another Mt. Healthy punt, and Anderson closed out the third quarter with the ball and a promising 42-0 lead.
Fourth Quarter
The Raptors quickly moved the ball inside the red zone to begin the fourth quarter, but ultimately the drive yielded no points when Anderson turned the ball over on downs. The Fighting Owls could not muster any points on the final drive of the game, and the Raptors were able to close out a dominating 42-0 win over Mt. Healthy to advance to the Regional Semifinal for the second consecutive season.
