Florida High School Basketball - Space Coast trounces Merritt Island
November 30, 2022: Merritt Island, FL 32953 The Space Coast Vipers (Cocoa, FL) basketball crushed the host Merritt Island Mustangs (Merritt Island, FL), 55-19 in Wednesday's non-league test.
The Vipers (4-4) will now prepare for their test against Astronaut (Titusville, FL). The War Eagles go into the 4A District 8 test with a 4-2 record. In their last test, Astronaut walloped Atlantic (Port Orange, FL), 27-17, in a league test.
The Mustangs now own a 0-5 record. They play next when they host Bayside for a 5A District 13 test on Thursday, December 1. Merritt Island will encounter a Bears squad coming off a 34-31 non-league win over Melbourne (Melbourne, FL). The Bears record now stands at 2-0.
First Quarter
Glenn scored 8, Johnson scored 4, Muniz-Ramos scored 3, Greene-Gines-Mangum-Newell each scored 2 and A. Bass scored 1 for Space Coast's 24 first quarter points.
Ortiz-Perez and Harris scored 2 each. Daniels scored 0 of 2 Free throws for Merritt Island's 4 first quarter points.
Second Quarter
Hill scored 5, S. Bass and Gines each scorred 3, and Glenn, Greene, and Newell scored 2 each for Space Coast's 17 points in the second quarter.
For the MIHS Mustangs; Harris scored 4, Finan scored 3, Ortiz-Perez and Jones each made one free throw for 9 second quarter points.
Third Quarter
Glenn and A. Bass each scored 4, Greene, Hill, each had 2 points for Space Coast's 12 third quarter scoring.
The Mustangs did no score in the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
The only scoring by Space Coast in the fourth quater was 2 points by Johnson.
Lyndsey Smith was fouled on a made basket and scored her foul shot for a total of 3 points, Maddie Motty scored 2 to account for MIHS's 6 fourth quarter scoring.
