Southwestern Piasa Birds (Piasa, IL) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Gillespie Miners (Gillespie, IL), 50-46 in a league bout.

With the victory, Southwestern upgrades its record to 4-3 on the campaign. The Piasa Birds host Metro-East Lutheran (Edwardsville, IL) to play the Knights in a non-league bout on Tuesday, December 14. The Knights come into the bout with a record of 3-1. Metro-East Lutheran won 47-46 in their recent non-league bout against Granite City (Granite City, IL)

Next up, the Miners play the Lincolnwood Lancers (Raymond, IL) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, December 14. Gillespie will attempt to upgrade on its 0-4 season record. The Lancers come into the bout with a 2-6 record after their 58-56 non-league loss to Litchfield (Litchfield, IL).
