Texas High School Basketball - Zavalla triumphant over Spurger
December 11, 2025: Spurger, TX 77660 The crowd at Thursday's non-league challenge between the Zavalla Eagles (Zavalla, TX) and the host Spurger Pirates (Spurger, TX), observed Zavalla's basketball team overwhelm Spurger by a score of 56-23.
The Eagles (14-3) will now prepare for their battle against Martinsville (Martinsville, TX). The Pirates enter the 1A Region IV District 27 battle with a 6-9 record. In their last battle, Martinsville was crushed by Union Grove (Gladewater, TX), 50-18, in a non-league battle.
The Pirates now own a 5-4 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Apple Springs for a non-league battle on Friday, December 12. Spurger will meet a Eagles squad coming off a 61-11 non-league loss to Slocum (Elkhart, TX). The Eagles record now stands at 0-3.
