Union Bears (Appalachia, VA) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting J.I. Burton Black Raiders (Norton, VA), 56-51 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Union upgrades its record to 2-0 on the campaign. The Bears travel to Central Wise (Norton, VA) to play the Warriors in a Mountain test on Saturday, December 3. The Warriors go into the test with a record of 2-0. Central Wise won 61-50 in their recent non-league test against Richlands (Richlands, VA)

The Black Raiders now own a 1-1 record. They play next when they travel to Grundy for a non-league test on Monday, December 5. J.I. Burton will encounter a Golden Wave squad coming off a 75-65 non-league win over Mountain Mission (Grundy, VA). The Golden Wave record now stands at 1-0.
