Holmes Aces (Edenton, NC) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Gates County Red Barons (Gatesville, NC), 40-35 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Holmes upgrades its record to 6-2 on the campaign. The Aces travel to Northeastern (Elizabeth City, NC) to play the Eagles in a 2A/3A Northeastern Coastal bout on Thursday, January 4. The Eagles come into the bout with a record of 2-2. Northeastern lost 87-63 in their recent non-league bout against Farmville Central (Farmville, NC)

Next up, the Red Barons play the Martin County Knights (Williamston, NC) in a 1A Four Rivers bout, on Wednesday, January 3. Gates County will attempt to upgrade on its 2-6 season record. The Knights come into the bout with a 4-4 record after their 71-65 non-league loss to Greene Central (Snow Hill, NC).
