The George Wythe Maroons basketball team (Wytheville, VA), was nudged 48-45 in Wednesday's non-league battle with the visiting J.I. Burton Black Raiders (Norton, VA)

The Black Raiders now sport a 6-4 record. They put it on the line next when they host Castlewood for a Cumberland battle on Tuesday, January 2.

The Maroons (7-2) will now prepare for their battle against Fort Chiswell (Max Meadows, VA). The Pioneers come into the Mountain Empire battle with a 7-1 record. In their last battle, Fort Chiswell edged Marion (Marion, VA), 54-50, in a non-league battle.
