The Mathis Pirates basketball team scored 53 points and held the host Robstown Cottonpickers to 44 in the Pirates non-league triumph on Wednesday.

The Pirates now sport a 6-12 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Kaufer for a non-league contest on Thursday, December 29. Mathis will battle a Seahawks team coming off a 50-36 non-league win over Benavides (Benavides, TX). The Seahawks record now stands at 7-7.

The Cottonpickers (1-15) will now prepare for their contest against King (Kingsville, TX). The Brahmas enter the 4A Region IV District 31 contest with a 9-8 record. In their last contest, King ran past Premont (Premont, TX), 77-53, in a non-league contest.
