Cypress Lakes Spartans (Katy, TX) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Alief Taylor Lions (Houston, TX), 59-58 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Cypress Lakes upgrades its record to 14-8 on the campaign. The Spartans host Cypress Ranch (Houston, TX) to play the Mustangs in a 6A Region II District 16 bout on Saturday, January 6. The Mustangs come into the bout with a record of 14-8.

Next up, the Lions play the Dawson Eagles (Pearland, TX) in a 6A Region III District 23 bout, on Wednesday, January 3. Alief Taylor will attempt to upgrade on its 16-7 season record. The Eagles come into the bout with a 19-6 record after their 55-42 non-league win over Port Arthur Memorial (Port Arthur, TX).
