Fans at Saturday's non-league challenge between the Independence Patriots (Coal City, WV) and the host Tug Valley Panthers (Williamson, WV), saw Independence's basketball squad knock off Tug Valley by a count of 42-30.

With the victory, Independence upgrades its record to 6-1 on the campaign. The Patriots host Nicholas County (Summersville, WV) to play the Grizzlies in a Coalfield AA challenge on Thursday, January 4. The Grizzlies come into the challenge with a record of 6-3. Nicholas County lost 44-41 in their recent non-league challenge against Oak Hill (Oak Hill, WV)

Next up, the Panthers play the Shelby Valley Wildcats (Pikeville, KY) in a non-league challenge, on Tuesday, January 2. Tug Valley will attempt to upgrade on its 2-6 season record. The Wildcats come into the challenge with a 6-2 record after their 60-27 league win over Jenkins (Jenkins, KY).
