Texas High School Basketball - Merkel edges Slaton
December 30, 2023: Slaton, TX 79364 The Merkel Badgers (Merkel, TX) basketball nipped the host Slaton Tigers (Slaton, TX), 42-38 in Saturday's non-league test.
The Badgers (17-5) will now prepare for their test against Ballinger (Ballinger, TX). The Bearcats go into the 3A Region I District 6 test with a 8-8 record. In their last test, Ballinger was tipped by Coahoma (Coahoma, TX), 65-30, in a league test.
The Tigers now own a 13-4 record. They play next when they travel to Shallowater for a 3A Region I District 2 test on Friday, January 5. Slaton will encounter a Mustangs squad coming off a 48-45 non-league win over Brock (Brock, TX). The Mustangs record now stands at 8-9.
