Mt. Vernon Mustangs (Mt. Vernon, IA) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the host Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings (Vinton, IA), 58-52 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Mt. Vernon upgrades its record to 5-0 on the season. The Mustangs travel to Kennedy (Cedar Rapids, IA) to clash with the Cougars in a non-league bout on Saturday, December 9. The Cougars go into the bout with a record of 1-4. Kennedy won 56-51 in their recent league bout against Jefferson (Cedar Rapids, IA)

Next up, the Vikings clash with the West Delaware Hawks (Manchester, IA) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, December 12. Vinton-Shellsburg will attempt to upgrade on its 2-3 season record. The Hawks go into the bout with a 2-3 record after their 54-51 non-league loss to Benton (Van Horne, IA).
