Mt. Vernon Mustangs (Mt. Vernon, IA) backers were in high spirits Tuesday as they witnessed their basketball squad bounce the visiting Independence Mustangs (Independence, IA), 88-28 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Mt. Vernon upgrades its record to 9-0 on the season. The Mustangs travel to Regina (Iowa City, IA) to clash with the Regals in a non-league bout on Thursday, December 21. The Regals go into the bout with a record of 7-1. Regina won 56-5 in their recent league bout against West Liberty (West Liberty, IA)

Next up, the Mustangs clash with the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings (Vinton, IA) in a WAMAC - West bout, on Thursday, January 4. Independence will attempt to upgrade on its 2-7 season record. The Vikings go into the bout with a 3-5 record after their 80-29 league win over South Tama County (Tama, IA).
