California High School Basketball - Chavez falls to Verdugo Hills

February 11, 2022: San Fernando, CA 91340

In Friday's league match, the visiting Verdugo Hills Dons basketball team scored a good 69-56 triumph over the Chavez Eagles.

With the defeat, Chavez moves to 8-14 on the year.

Coaches Summary

First Quarter

Chavez started slowly falling behind 10-0 but scored 14 of the next 17 points to take the lead going into the second quarter.

Second Quarter

Chavez and Verdugo battled back and forth, but a late 7-2 run allowed Verdugo to take a five -point lead into the break.

Third Quarter

Chavez roared out of the locker room on a 11-3 run to take a 40-37 lead on a three-pointer by Israel Barajas. Then disaster struck as Andrew Rangel and Omar Valles both got injured within 2 minutes of each other and Verdugo took advantage outscoring Chavez the rest of the quarter to take a 55-46 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter

In the 4th quarter with Valles and Rangel still on the bench Verdugo was able to stretch their lead to 18 before the pair entered the game in the mid-4th quarterand stopped Verdugo. The Eagles. Rallied to within 8 before rnning ot of time
