Irion County Hornets (Mertzon, TX) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the host Bronte Longhorns (Bronte, TX), 50-35 in a league bout.

With the victory, Irion County upgrades its record to 21-8 on the campaign.

Next up, the Longhorns play the Garden City Bearkats (Garden City, TX) in a 1A Region II District 11 bout, on Thursday, February 8. Bronte will attempt to upgrade on its 15-13 season record. The Bearkats come into the bout with a 21-9 record after their 37-29 league loss to Irion County (Mertzon, TX).
