West Virginia High School Basketball - Shady Spring triumphant over Independence
February 3, 2026: Coal City, WV 25823 The crowd at Tuesday's non-league challenge between the Shady Spring Tigers (Shady Spring, WV) and the host Independence Patriots (Coal City, WV), observed Shady Spring's basketball team overwhelm Independence by a score of 79-56.
The Tigers (8-3) will now prepare for their challenge against Nicholas County (Summersville, WV). The Grizzlies come into the Coalfield AAA challenge with a 3-10 record. In their last challenge, Nicholas County was routed by South Harrison (Lost Creek, WV), 60-41, in a non-league battle.
The Patriots now own a 5-6 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Martin County for a non-league battle on Friday, February 6. Independence will meet a Cardinals squad coming off a 85-77 league win over Paintsville (Paintsville, KY). The Cardinals record now stands at 14-6.
