North Carolina High School Basketball - Mitchell holds off Mountain Heritage

February 5, 2026: Bakersville, NC 28705

The Mitchell Mountaineers basketball team scored 55 points and limited the visiting Mountain Heritage Cougars to 54 in the Mountaineers league triumph on Thursday.

The Mountaineers now possess a 6-11 record. They play next when they travel to Madison for a Western Highlands 2A/3A game on Monday, February 9. Mitchell will confront a Patriots team coming off a 73-53 league win over Polk County (Columbus, NC). The Patriots record now stands at 10-11.

With the loss, Mountain Heritage moves to 12-6 on the season. The Cougars host Avery County (Newland, NC) to clash with the Vikings in a Western Highlands 2A/3A outing on Monday, February 9. The Vikings come into the outing with a record of 10-7.
