Kentucky High School Basketball - Lexington Catholic can't hold off Great Crossing
March 12, 2024: Lexington, KY 40503 The Great Crossing basketball team scored 56 points and held the host Lexington Catholic Knights to 53 in the non-league triumph on Tuesday.
The now sport a 34-1 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Spencer County for a non-league contest on Wednesday, March 20. Great Crossing will battle a Bears team coming off a 57-51 non-league win over Simon Kenton (Independence, KY). The Bears record now stands at 22-9.
Fourth Quarter
Back and forth all quarter Great Crossing took a 2 point lead with 2:30 to play on a Gage Richardson floater in the lane. Lexington Catholic would score the next 5 points to take a 3 point lead with just over 1 minute remaining. A Great Crossing defensive stop setup the unforgetable finish. Vince Dawson hits a 3 to tie the game with 30 seconds remaining. Sam Smith would then miss a 3 with 5 seconds left setting up the shot heard all around Lexington. Malichi Moreno grabbed the miss and dribbled just passed half court where he passed it to Vince Dawson with 1.2 seconds left. Vince rose from the top of the key with a hand in his face and buried the game winner at the buzzer.
