Weslaco East Wildcats (Weslaco, TX) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets (Edcouch, TX), 1-0 in a league challenge.

The Wildcats now own a 12-5 record. They take the field next when they host Harlingen South for a 5A Region IV District 32 challenge on Tuesday, March 21. Weslaco East will battle a Hawks squad coming off a 13-3 league win over Donna (Donna, TX). The Hawks record now stands at 14-5.

With the loss, Edcouch-Elsa falls to 7-9 on the campaign. The Yellowjackets travel to Veterans Memorial (Brownsville, TX) to battle the Chargers in a 5A Region IV District 32 challenge on Tuesday, March 21. The Chargers enter the challenge with a record of 10-7. Veterans Memorial won 10-0 in their recent league challenge against Pace (Brownsville, TX)
