March 3, 2025: Lake Balboa, CA 91406 Animo South Los Angeles Panthers (Los Angeles, CA) followers left the game satisfied Monday as they saw their volleyball squad achieve victory over the host Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars (Lake Balboa, CA), 3-0 in a non-league test.

An inability to defend a lead in set 1 deteriorated into letting the next 2 sets get away with insurmountable 8 & 9 point deficits cost the Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars dearly versus the Animo South LA Panthers in the Cougadome at Mulholland MS. The opener started off promising with LBCP staking a mid-game lead of 14-9. The Cougars held on up to 19-14 before the collapse. ASLA then hit the gas & won 11 of the next 12 rallies to win going away 25-20. Animo opened up a 9-4 lead in set 2. It soon bulged to a commanding 13-5 score. This was Lake Balboa's Popeye moment of "that's all I can stands & I can't stands no more!" Sound the charge! It was soon down to 23-24 Animo with the Cougars fending off 5 Panther game points in a Rocky Balboaesque stand of refusing to go down. The Panthers finally got the point they needed to win crossing the finish line courtesy of the earlier 8 point lead. Lake was down again at 9-18 in set 3 but was unable to do much to the confident Panthers.
