New York High School Baseball - Canisius loses to St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute
June 5, 2022: Buffalo, NY 14209 In Sunday's non-league game, the visiting St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Marauders baseball team scored a tight 8-3 victory over the Canisius Crusaders.
The Marauders (23-5) will now prepare for their game against Chaminade (Mineola, NY). The Flyers go into the non-league game with a 4-1 record. In their last game, Chaminade tipped St. Anthony's (Melville, NY), 11-0, in a non-league game.
Game Summary
St. Joe's claimed its 4th Georgetown Cup Championship in the last 10 years with an 8-3 victory over Canisius. St. Joe's grabbed control of the game with a 5-run 3rd inning and never looked back. On the mound, Brendan Bucello picked up the win throwing 4-2/3 innings yielding 3 runs while striking out 4. Joe Stumpo then came on to throw the remaining 2-1/3 to pick up another save. Offensively, the Marauders were led by Tom Zwirecki, who had 2 hits and an RBI. Anthony Greco, Brendan Bucello, Josh Eagle, and Jeremy Connor also picked up RBI. The Marauders will now head down to New York City to compete in the state catholic championship tournament
