August 28, 2025: Chesapeake, VA 23320 The Oscar Smith Tigers edged the visiting Great Bridge Wildcats volleyball squad by a final score of 3-2 in Thursday's league game.
Next up, the Tigers confront the Kempsville Chiefs (Virginia Beach, VA) in a non-league game, on Wednesday, September 3. Oscar Smith will attempt to advance on its 1-0 season record.
The Wildcats (0-2) will now prepare for their game against Granby (Norfolk, VA). The Comets come into the non-league outing with a 0-1 record.
Match Summary
The Oscar Smith Varsity Girls Volleyball team rang the victory bell after a close match against Great Bridge High School. Final Scores: 3-2, 14-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-17, 15-13. For Oscar Smith, this was their first win over Great Bridge in over two decades.
Impeccable defense by both teams created a very competitive matchup. The Tigers were led by the Seniors as Liliana Huntsberger who collected 15 kills and 36 digs. Amari Chaney connected 12 times with the hitters as she pushed 62 Balls to her hitters. Alice Anderson served 6 aces, 5 kills and picked up 12 assists. Alicia Brown amassed 24 digs. Sianni Thompson – Jones was all over the court with 18 digs. Junior Sophia Flores pitched in 10 digs.
This matchup was quite a performance for the crowd. Oscar Smith hopes this first win of the season is foreshadowing of the season yet to come.
