In Monday's non-league match, the host Holmes Bulldogs football squad scored a close 22-20 triumph over the Newport Wildcats.

The Bulldogs (1-2) will now prepare for their battle against Bishop Brossart (Alexandria, KY). The Mustangs go into the non-league battle with a 1-0 record.

The Wildcats now have a 2-3 record. They play next when they travel to St. Henry for a non-league battle on Saturday, October 4. Newport will play a Crusaders team coming off a 35-8 non-league win over Gallatin County (Warsaw, KY). The Crusaders record now stands at 3-0.
