Tara Hoekman has been named player of the year. "Tara was selected as Abilene Cowgirl player of the year for her all-around performance on and off the field. Tara carried a 3.94 GPA while competing in three different sports during her high school career. Tara was a 4-year starter on the Varsity Softball team serving as a Team Captain her Junior and Senior years. She was also selected as the Team MVP, an honor awarded by her teammates. Tara's current year stats include a 486 batting average with 9 doubles, 5 triples and 2 home runs. She split time between short stop and pitching, with a 9/1 win/loss record, a 1.02 ERA and a fielding percentage of 906. Tara was a savvy base runner with very good speed, ending the season with 10 stolen bases. Tara was the heart and soul of the Cowgirl softball team, showing leadership through her play and encouragement of her teammates. She was a very coachable player, taking both criticism and praise equally well. Tara was also an extremely level-headed player, not easily rattled or discouraged. Tara was a great all-around player - the likes of which do not come around very often. "
