Melissa Cardinals (Melissa, TX) fans exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Lovejoy Leopards (Lucas, TX), 8-1 in a league challenge.

The Cardinals now sport a 17-1 record. They take the field next when they host Bullard for a non-league challenge on Saturday, March 9. Melissa will face a Panthers squad coming off a 10-1 non-league win over Rogers (Rogers, TX). The Panthers record now stands at 12-4.

With the loss, Lovejoy falls to 7-10 on the campaign. The Leopards host Greenville (Greenville, TX) to face the Lions in a 5A Region II District 13 challenge on Friday, March 8. The Lions enter the challenge with a record of 3-10. Greenville lost 25-10 in their recent league challenge against McKinney North (McKinney, TX)
