Illinois High School Soccer - Carmel held off by Deerfield
June 5, 2021: Deerfield, IL 60015 The crowd at Saturday's non-league test between the Deerfield Warriors (Deerfield, IL) and the visiting Carmel Corsairs (Mundelein, IL), saw Deerfield's soccer squad get by Carmel by a margin of 3-2.
The Warriors now sport a 14-7 record.
With the loss, Carmel drops to 9-7 on the season.
Game Summary
Carmel cashed in a free kick to take the lead at 13:47. Lauren Gottlieb started the counter that got the Warriors even, distributing to Simone Criz, who found Holly Deutsch in space behind the Corsair backline. Deutsch fired under the crossbar for her 16th of the year. Emily Fox put the Warriors up one when the Carmel keeper could not handle Erin Emory's through ball and tucked it in to the net at 25:10. Carmel pulled even at 60:51. The Warriors poured on the pressure, and it paid off in the final minute, when Bella Lowis picked up a loose ball and touched it to Riley Schimanski, who one timed the ball into the upper 90 for the game winner. It was Schimanski's 20th of the season, and her 8th game winner. Freshman Lauren Gottlieb got the win in goal.
