Game Summary
Through six innings, it was O'Connell's game. Then came the disastrous seventh, and with it, defeat for the host Knights -- a 5-3 heartbreaking loss after leading from the outset. Leading 2-1 and the #5, #6, #7 hitters due up, victory was at hand -- or so it seemed. Think again! A popup fell for a base hit behind the shortstop and left fielder. A base on balls followed, as the tying and go-ahead runners were now on base. St. Mary's Ryken bunted, and an errant throw down the right field line led to two runs crossing the plate and the batter/baserunner advancing all the way to 3rd base. Ryken led, 3-2. A groundout followed, before another throwing error plated yet another run. That batter/baserunner came around to score moments later after the runner moved up on a groundout and a base hit to right. The DJO girls responded with a run of their own, but came up on the short end of a 5-3 finale. Although O'Connell out-hit their visitors from southern Maryland (10-5), they lost.
