The East Burke Cavaliers (Connelly Springs, NC) basketball nipped the visiting McDowell Titans (Marion, NC), 53-52 in Thursday's non-league test.

The Cavaliers (8-1) will now prepare for their test against Newton-Conover (Newton, NC). The Red Devils go into the 2A Conference 45 test with a 10-2 record. In their last test, Newton-Conover was tipped by Alexander Central (Taylorsville, NC), 49-43, in a non-league test.

The Titans now own a 9-3 record. They play next when they travel to North Buncombe for a 3A/4A Conference 53 test on Tuesday, January 3. McDowell will encounter a Black Hawks squad coming off a 71-39 non-league loss to Cherokee (Cherokee, NC). The Black Hawks record now stands at 5-6.
