Fans at Friday's non-league challenge between the Vela Sabercats (Edinburg, TX) and the host Nixon Mustangs (Laredo, TX), saw Vela's basketball squad hold off Nixon by a tally of 66-60.

With the victory, Vela improves its record to 34-5 on the campaign. The Sabercats travel to Pioneer (Mission, TX) to confront the Diamondbacks in a non-league challenge on Tuesday, February 27. The Diamondbacks come into the challenge with a record of 22-14. Pioneer won 60-55 in their recent non-league challenge against Gregory-Portland (Portland, TX)
