California High School Soccer - Belmont knocks off Carson
December 16, 2009: Los Angeles, CA 90026 The Belmont Sentinels (Los Angeles, CA) soccer the visiting Carson Colts (Carson, CA), 4-1 in Wednesday's non-league bout.
With the victory, Belmont betters its record to 3-0 on the campaign. The Sentinels travel to Kennedy (Granada Hills, CA) to face the Cougars in a non-league bout on Friday, December 18. The Cougars enter the bout with a record of 2-3. Kennedy won 7-0 in their recent non-league bout against Monroe (North Hills, CA)
In their next game, the Colts face the Fairfax Lions (Los Angeles, CA) in a non-league bout, on Thursday, January 7. Carson will attempt to better on its 1-2 season record.
First Half
Leslie Rivera opened scoring in the 5th minute on a breakaway goal. In minute 13 Crystal Salas scored with a beautiful head shot from a corner kick from Leslie Rivera. The game remained tied for the rest of the half with Belmont missing numerous chances.
Second Half
In minute 5 of second half Nallely Alvarez converted a penalty kick after Leslie Rivera was tripped in the box. The final tally for Belmont came in minute 29 of the second half from Leslie Rivera when she scored her 9th goal of the season. Carson scored their only goal with 5 minutes left in the game when two Belmont defenders failed to clear a ball left invitingly in the middle of the field.
