New Jersey High School Basketball - Medford Tech crushes Holy Cross
January 11, 2011: Medford, NJ 08055 Medford Tech Jaguars (Medford, NJ) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad bounce the visiting Holy Cross Lancers (Delran, NJ), 74-40 in a league bout.
With the victory, Medford Tech upgrades its record to 7-2 on the campaign. The Jaguars host Rancocas Valley (Mt. Holly, NJ) to play the Red Devils in a non-league bout on Friday, January 14. The Red Devils come into the bout with a record of 5-3.
Next up, the Lancers play the Bordentown Scotties (Bordentown, NJ) in a Burlco - Patriot bout, on Thursday, January 13. Holy Cross will attempt to improve on its 4-5 season record. The Scotties come into the challenge with a 1-7 record after their 62-31 league loss to Northern Burlington (Columbus, NJ).
First Quarter
Medford jumps out to a 21 - 9 lead behind full court pressure and tough man to man defense. The Medford bigs (Donte Martinez and Greg Lawson) combine for 12 points. Donte grabs four rebounds and dishes out 2 assists. Khalik Sutton had 2 assists. Kris Shands and Devonte Carey both knocked down triples and ended the quarter with three points.
Second Quarter
Holy Cross hits a bank shot three to cut the lead to 34 - 21 at half time. Greg Lawson scored 4 and grabbed 3 rebounds in the 2nd. Greg had 10 points and 5 rebounds at half. Khalik Sutton had 3 steals in the 1st half. Donte Ali had a great drive for 2 points. He had 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 steal in the 2nd.
Third Quarter
Medford delivers the knockout blow in a 28 - 9 third quarter. Devonte Carey scored 10 of his game high 18 in the 3rd period. Kris Shands scored 5 in the quarter. Medford leads 62 to 30 going into the fourth period.
Fourth Quarter
Medford improves to 7 - 2 with a 74 - 40 victory over Holy Cross. Devonte Carey leads with 18 points 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Greg Lawson contributes 12 points and 8 rebounds. Donte Martinez socres 15 including 3 triples. Lamaine Cooper scores 9 and fills the stat sheet with 2 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds. Khalik Sutton had 3 assists and 4 steals.
