Arizona High School Football - Mesquite nips Desert Ridge
August 27, 2010: Gilbert, AZ 85233 In Friday's non-league match, the host Mesquite Wildcats football squad scored a close 28-27 victory over the Desert Ridge Jaguars.
In their next game, the Wildcats clash with the Desert Mountain Wolves (Scottsdale, AZ) in a non-league match, on Friday, September 3. Mesquite will attempt to move on its 1-0 season record. The Wolves enter the bout with a 0-1 record after their 17-10 non-league loss to Corona del Sol (Tempe, AZ).
The Jaguars (0-1) will now prepare for their bout against Central (Phoenix, AZ). The Bobcats enter the non-league bout with a 0-1 record. In their last bout, Central was nudged by Maryvale (Phoenix, AZ), 29-27, in a league bout.
Third Quarter
Anthony Lopez (5) ended the scoring drought for MHS returning the opening kickoff of the 2nd half 95 yards for a TD. Mesquite scored again with 1:32 remaining in the 3rd quarter with a 18 yrd TD pass from Trammell to DURRANI (3). The PAT was blocked.
Fourth Quarter
It all came together for MHS in the 4th Q with two TD passes from Trammel to Rickert (83)of 28 & 38 yards. Lopez ran for a 2 pt conversion.
The defense stopped a late drive by Desert Ridge with a pass interception by Rickert inside the 20. A field goal attempt to win the game by Desert Ridge with time running out was short.
