Indiana High School Basketball - Avon winner over Mooresville
November 28, 2015: Avon, IN 46123 In Saturday's non-league outing, the Avon Orioles (Avon, IN) basketball squad felled the visiting Mooresville Pioneers (Mooresville, IN), by a margin of 78-67.
The Orioles (2-0) will now prepare for their outing against Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, IN). The Royals go into the Hoosier Crossroads outing with a 2-0 record. In their last outing, Hamilton Southeastern thwarted Lake Central (St. John, IN), 49-31, in a non-league outing.
The Pioneers now own a 1-1 record. They play next when they travel to Danville for a non-league outing on Friday, December 4. Mooresville will clash with a Warriors squad coming off a 68-40 non-league win over Greencastle (Greencastle, IN). The Warriors record now stands at 2-0.
First Quarter
Avon got off to a quick start hitting on 9-16 fgs. Avon was led by Andrew Short and Gavin Collier each scoring 6 pts. Mooresville hit on just 4-11 fgs and fell behind 22-9 at the break. Second Quarter
Avon continued to find the basket hitting on 8-17 fgs (including 2-3 from behind the arc). Shawn Moore did most of the damage with 12 pts in the quarter. Third Quarter
Avon continued their dominance by hitting on 9-14 fgs. Shawn Moore added 7 more points to his total to lead Avon. Evan Lowden added 5 pts for Avon. Mooresville really struggled hitting just 4-13 fgs. Trent Porter led the Pioneers with 5 pts in this quarter. Mooresville committed 4 turnovers and Avon had 6.
Fourth Quarter
Mooresville made the game close by hitting on 10-21 fgs as Avon turned the ball over 9 times. Avon went 7-9 from the line and 4-10 from the field in this final quarter of play.
