Michigan High School Baseball - Roosevelt nips Woodhaven
May 14, 2012: Wyandotte, MI 48192 Roosevelt Bears (Wyandotte, MI) fans exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they observed their baseball squad hold off the visiting Woodhaven Warriors (Brownstown, MI), 1-0 in a league test.
With the win, Roosevelt upgrades its record to 9-10 on the season. The Bears travel to Monroe (Monroe, MI) to clash with the Trojans in a non-league game on Tuesday, May 15. The Trojans go into the game with a record of 5-11.
The Warriors (10-12) will now prepare for their game against Melvindale (Melvindale, MI). The Cardinals go into the Downriver game with a 3-9 record. In their last game, Melvindale tipped Anderson (Southgate, MI), 3-2, in a league game.
Game Summary
The Wyandotte Bears pushed a run acros the plate in the bottom of the ninth on two hits and an outfield error and defeated the Warriors 1-0 in Wyandotte. Zack Zsolcsak was the hard luck loser in a pitching battle where he scattered seven hits and struck out seven batters. The Warriors could only muster four hits of their own and never got a runner past second base in the game. The Warriors turned two double plays to snuff out two Bear rallies in the pitching duel. The Warriors had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth when Andrew Dayfield singled with one out then advanced to second when Zach Tallman was hit by a pitch, but Tyler Thimmes popped out to the shortstop to end the Warrior threat.
