Wisconsin High School Baseball - Lake Country Lutheran nips University School of Milwaukee
May 13, 2021: Milwaukee, WI 53217 Lake Country Lutheran Lightning (Hartland, WI) fans exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they observed their baseball squad hold off the host University School of Milwaukee Wildcats (Milwaukee, WI), 2-1 in a league test.
With the win, Lake Country Lutheran upgrades its record to 11-1 on the season. The Lightning host St. Francis (St. Francis, WI) to battle the Mariners in a Midwest Classic test on Tuesday, May 18. The Mariners come into the test with a record of 3-5.
With the defeat, University School of Milwaukee falls to 4-3 on the season. The Wildcats host St. Catherine's (Racine, WI) to battle the Angels in a non-league test on Friday, May 14. The Angels come into the test with a record of 0-9. St. Catherine's lost 18-0 in their recent league test against St. Thomas More (Milwaukee, WI)
Game Summary
In an outstanding HS baseball game, the Lightning outlasted the Wildcats at USM for an 8 inning conference victory. Junior Tim Frerking pitched 7 innings for the win recording 8 K's and 1 BB and junior Josh Pavlik pitched a clean bottom of the 8th inning for the save (Josh was also 1 for 2 with a SB at the plate). Junior Sam Heicher was on base 3 times and knocked in the tying run with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the top of the 7th (plating Junior Brett Powers who had singled and stole second base with 2 outs). In the top of the 8th, senior Gavin Theis lead off with a single and then worked his way around the bases via a WP, a SB, and a PB to score the winning run.
Lake Country Lutheran moves to 11-1 and 8-0 in conference.
