Massachusetts High School Volleyball - Brookline edged by Walpole
September 27, 2018: Brookline, MA 02445 The Walpole Rebels held off the host Brookline Warriors volleyball team by a score of 3-2 in Thursday's league test.
The Rebels now have a 6-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to King Philip Regional for a non-league test on Friday, September 28. Walpole will confront a Warriors team coming off a 3-1 league loss to Stoughton (Stoughton, MA). The Warriors record now stands at 4-3.
The Warriors (5-2) will now prepare for their test against Framingham (Framingham, MA). The Flyers enter the Bay State - Carey test with a 0-6 record.
Match Summary
Brookline's service & attack were strong, but the Rebels pulled off a hard fought win. The Rebels jumped out to a 9-4 lead w/1 kill & 3 aces by A.Rae & 1 kill by S. King. Brookline closed the gap, tying it at 11-11, & continued to keep it close until the Rebels turned the pressure back on & earned pts (1 kill-A.Rae;1 kill-S.King;4 aces- K.Rae) to take the set.Set 2 looked like it could be Walpole's w/a strong start, but again Brookline closed the gap, tying it at 11-11, & creating an 8-pt lead (13-21). After a Walpole time out, the Rebels started a come back led by S. King with 4 kills, but fell just short of the win. Walpole had control of set 3 & led by 7 pts (14-7) but Brookline capitalized on Walpole's unforced errors & tied it up at 24-24. S.King worked hard for her team w/2 kills & 1 ace to end the set in overtime. Set 4 was Brookline's, holding an 8-pt lead that Walpole could not close. Walpole dug deep for set 5 & earned 10/15 pts, w/last 2 pts kills from A.Rae.
