California High School Volleyball - Lick-Wilmerding edged by Convent of the Sacred Heart
September 27, 2011: San Francisco, CA 94112 The Convent of the Sacred Heart Cubs held off the host Lick-Wilmerding Tigers volleyball team by a score of 3-2 in Tuesday's league game.
The Cubs now have a 8-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Urban for a Bay Counties - West game on Friday, September 30. Convent of the Sacred Heart will meet a Blues team coming off a 3-0 league loss to University (San Francisco, CA). The Blues record now stands at 4-6.
The Tigers (5-5) will now prepare for their game against Drew (San Francisco, CA). The Dragons enter the Bay Counties - West game with a 9-2 record. In their last game, Drew nipped Jewish Community (San Francisco, CA), 3-1, in a non-league game.
Match Summary
After dropping the first two sets to the visiting Cubs of The Convent of the Sacred Heart, the Tigers of Lick-Wilmerding rallied to take sets three and four. Unfortunately, the Cubs proved too much for the home team; roaring out to a six point lead in the final and deciding set, and never looking back. (17-25, 13-25, 25-22, 255-21, 6-15) The Tigers were led on defense by senior captains Jessica Erlich and Brenda Young, who tallied 8 and 7 digs, respectively. The Tigers’ offense was lead by sophomore outside hitter, Jade Sparks and junior middle blocker Annie Wilson who totaled 15 and 10 kills, respectively.
