Texas High School Basketball - Westlake Academy holds off Red River Christian HomeSchool
November 2, 2009: Westlake, TX 76262 Westlake Academy Blacksmiths (Westlake, TX) backers were in high spirits Monday as they witnessed their basketball squad nip the visiting Red River Christian HomeSchool Rattlers (Gainesville, TX), 45-44 in a non-league bout.
With the win, Westlake Academy upgrades its record to 1-0 on the season. The Blacksmiths host Nazarene Christian Academy (Crowley, TX) to play the in a non-league bout on Friday, November 13. The go into the bout with a record of 0-0.
Next up, the Rattlers play the Phoenix Charter (Greenville, TX) in a non-league bout, on Thursday, November 12. Red River Christian HomeSchool will attempt to upgrade on its 0-1 season record.
First Quarter
Westlake was off to a good start. Shea Griffin dominated the rebounds but picked up 2 fouls. Casey Timmerman scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half.
Second Quarter
Continued to be over aggressive on defense, more foul trouble. We kept the pressure on them but pulled back just before the half.
Third Quarter
We started to get some momentum and I though we were going to start to pull away. We scored 12 led by Julia Thronson, Sydney Lawthers and Brooke Awtry.
Fourth Quarter
Kali Spates came alive and put them in foul trouble. She went to the line 3 times within about 40 seconds. We struggled from the line all game. Veterans Bailey Cockrum, Kali Spates and Brooke Awtry played huge to close out the game. Brooke Awtry hit a go ahead bucket but was answered on a WA turnover. Down by 2, Corey Timmerman hit a layup and was fouled. She made the "and one" to win the game.
