Illinois High School Basketball - Centennial nips Mattoon
February 1, 2022: Mattoon, IL 61938 Fans at Tuesday's non-league challenge between the Centennial Chargers (Champaign, IL) and the host Mattoon Green Wave (Mattoon, IL), saw Centennial's basketball squad hold off Mattoon by a count of 56-53.
With the victory, Centennial upgrades its record to 12-9 on the campaign. The Chargers travel to Richwoods (Peoria, IL) to play the Knights in a Big Twelve challenge on Friday, February 4. The Knights come into the challenge with a record of 12-7. Richwoods won 49-36 in their recent league challenge against Bloomington (Bloomington, IL)
Next up, the Green Wave play the Effingham Flaming Hearts (Effingham, IL) in a Apollo challenge, on Thursday, February 3. Mattoon will attempt to upgrade on its 13-12 season record. The Flaming Hearts come into the challenge with a 9-14 record after their 42-31 league loss to Lincoln (Lincoln, IL).
