The crowd at Friday's non-league contest between the Melrose Red Raiders (Melrose, MA) and the host Reading Memorial Rockets (Reading, MA), observed Melrose's football squad edge Reading Memorial by a count of 21-20.

The Red Raiders now own a 1-0 record. They play next when they host Malden for a non-league contest on Friday, September 15. Melrose will encounter a Golden Tornados squad coming off a 20-14 non-league loss to Lynn Vo-Tech (Lynn, MA). The Golden Tornados record now stands at 0-1.
