Arizona High School Basketball - Arcadia overwhelms Coronado
January 13, 2012: Phoenix, AZ 85018 Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Arcadia Titans (Phoenix, AZ) and the visiting Coronado Dons (Scottsdale, AZ), saw Arcadia's basketball squad trounce Coronado by a count of 66-15.
With the victory, Arcadia upgrades its record to 18-2 on the campaign. The Titans travel to South Mountain (Phoenix, AZ) to play the Jaguars in a II Section III challenge on Tuesday, January 17. The Jaguars come into the challenge with a record of 16-5. South Mountain lost 46-36 in their recent league challenge against Seton Catholic (Chandler, AZ)
Next up, the Dons play the Apache Junction Prospectors (Apache Junction, AZ) in a II Section III challenge, on Tuesday, January 17. Coronado will attempt to upgrade on its 2-13 season record. The Prospectors come into the challenge with a 10-6 record after their 29-28 non-league loss to Poston Butte (San Tan Valley, AZ).
First Quarter
Arcadia held Coronado scoreless during the first quarter and led 15 - 0 at the end of one period. Taylor Steger led the Lady Titans with four points in the period.
Second Quarter
The Lady Titans scored the first six points of the quarter, to hold a 21 - 0 lead, before Coronad got on the board. For the quarter, Arcadia outscored the Dons 20 - 4, and held a 35 - 12 lead. Andrea Goulette had six points for Arcadia in the period, while Antonette Onorato had three for Coronado.
Third Quarter
Things kept rolling in the third quarter, as Arcadia held a 22 - 8 edge in the period, for a 57 - 12 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Gabrielle Evans scored eight points for Arcadia in the period, while the Dons got four points from Taylor Segar.
Fourth Quarter
Arcadia closed out the game with a 9 - 3 advantage in the fourth quarter, good for a 66 - 15 victory. Taylor Segar scored three in the period for Coronado, and led her team with eight points for the game. Tori Wright scored four points in the fourth quarter to lead Arcadia. For the game, the Lady Titans' Gabrielle Evans led all scorers with 14 points. Kylie Herd added eight rebounds, Gianna Grumbein passed out three assists, and Evans had five steals.
