April 19, 2010: Liverpool, NY 13090 The Sutherland Knights got by the host Liverpool Warriors baseball team by a count of 3-2 in Monday's non-league bout.
The Knights now possess a 5-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to Brockport for a non-league bout on Tuesday, April 20. Sutherland will play a Blue Devils squad coming off a 7-2 non-league win over Victor (Victor, NY). The Blue Devils record now stands at 3-2.
The Warriors now sport a 2-1 record. They take the field next when they host Sutherland for a non-league battle on Thursday, April 22. Liverpool will play a Knights squad coming off a 7-2 non-league win over Elmira Free Academy (Elmira, NY). The Knights record now stands at 7-0.
Game Summary
The Sutherland Knights used a walk-off single by catcher Nick Flemister in the seventh inning to beat Section III's Liverpool 3-2 at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
It was 0-0 through four innings, when Liverpool struck first putting up two runs in the fifth inning. Sutherland battled back to tie the game at 2 in the sixth when Jordan Swisher hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring pinch runner Sean Pelletier. Right fielder Matt Barra followed with a two out single scoring Flemister who walked.
In the seventh, center fielder Aaron Frieda walked and was sacrificed to second by designated hitter Grant Heyman's bunt which was misplayed putting two runners on. A double steal by Freida and Heyman put two runners in scoring position for Flemister's walk-off base hit.
Junior right-hander Nick Barra threw a complete game five-hitter for his second win of the season for the Knights.
The Knights are now 5-0 and take on Brockport tomorrow in Myrtle Beach.
